The Coastie Summer Edition number 1

Image
It's here. W ith the overwhelming support from our Tutukaka Coast business community, a good number of Whangarei based businesses and the widespread endorsement from our local readers - thank you, w e couldn't have done it without you! A couple of months ago we thought we'd hope to do about 8 to 12 pages for The Coastie Summer Edition . We finally did a whopping 28 pages! (twenty eight) It was fun to  'just get started' with The Coastie last January (it was literally bookmark size then...) We've received feedback like "The Coast really needed something like this" and ... "Good on you for taking this on" ... So yeah, it's been a fabulous ride this year, learning lots while making and publishing  The Coastie  every week since January and now making this "bumper" Summer Edition - thanks to our readers and advertisers it all came together in it's unique way, Coastie style. Already feeling curious how The Coastie  may...

Coastie # 3 - Featuring Angel Flights

Image
click for image source The Coastie Nr3 has been delivered to T-Coast letterboxes today. Again there has been some good feedback fueling our efforts for our next issue. The current Coastie features the story of Local Tutukaka Coast "returning" resident Lance Weller who is currently setting up the volunteer charity service Angel Flight NZ . Last week, I've had the opportunity to meet Lance over the phone and get a sense of what his generous mission is about.

Tutukaka Coastie draws positive feedback

Click image for current issue The Coastie , arguably NZ's smallest coastal newsletter, is growing! Week2 - Issue 2 is out - double the size as issue 1. The print run of 1000 copies goes to nearly 800 T-Coast letterboxes, the shops, businesses and cafes on the T-Coast and is distributed at the Saturday Market in Whangarei. Early days yet but Community response so far has been very encouraging. People not only notice the publication but like what they see and want to contribute to it. Advertisers are now calling spontaneously when they receive The Coastie in their mailbox and contact us to place adverts. I have been busy researching & writing relevant content, designing Coastie adverts for people, introducing the idea to local and Whangarei businesses and nutting out the actual workflow to make all this happen on a weekly basis alongside my other commitments (sheer madness). There are calls and emails from people wanting to contribute locally relevant content and m...

The Coastie is born!

Image
Right, so here we are. The Coastie has become reality this week. Last week a small local Tutukaka Coast publication like the Coastie was still only an idea. Today I am finalizing the layout for issue two! On the Tutukaka Coast we must be about 3-4000 people (if not more) living here permanently. During summer population numbers seem to grow significantly for a few weeks and Matapouri buzzes with holiday visitors and holiday home owning families. The T-Coast is a bit of a home grown tourism secret as it's off the beaten track which follows the Highway 1 route through Whangarei to Cape Reinga. And so I still find people shaking their heads in disbelief when I say: "hey, if you are not visiting the Coast you are missing a true gem in NZ's treasure trove. Only the 2nd best most unspoiled coastline in the World ... with the LARGEST marine cave on the planet at the Poor Knight's Islands ... etc ... etc ... Now about this Local Spirit The Coastie (arguably New Zeal...
